Just a quick post. I have yet to find one travel blogger who has used the Facebook promoted post feature to help raise awareness of their content. I have used this a few times to promote content published on My Life in Leeds and the results have been very good.
Profit made on all campaigns
I have used Facebook promote post feature to help generate revenue, or, help raise the awareness of my content to a wider audience. Earlier in the year I successfully used Facebook to promote a guide that one of my writers wrote on boutique hotels, for £7 and the post on Facebook was seen by 4,015 people, and converted into 18 hotel bookings – interestingly, not all of the bookings were for the hotels featured on the guide, but for, other cities too. The revenue generated for this promotion was £165. Okay, it didn’t make me rich, but considering I spent £7, the profit was impressive.
At Easter I worked with a local bakery to promote their baking courses, and received commission per sale. I spent £4 this time and 3,133 people saw the post, and I generated £283 in commission. So, in total £448 was generated on a spend of £11. Can you say the same about Google Adwords?
Helps increase your audience
What I also found by running promote posts is that my ‘likes’ count increased during the campaign, so the £4 or £7 spend on each campaign was actually a better return on investment than a normal sponsored story or sidebar add on Facebook.
Setting up your Facebook promoted post
When choosing your post to promote you have two choices for the audience, 1) only people who like your page or 2) people who like your page and their friends, which is the option I always choose. You can spend £4, £7 and £10 and the estimated reach increases the more you spend. The promotion lasts for three days and you can pay via PayPal or your debit and credit card.
I am unsure why no bloggers seem to be using this type of ad campaign on Facebook. I am surprised. Or, have I just not noticed the promoted posts – have you tried this out, what are your experiences with Facebook promoted posts?
